In Her Own Words

About her

As a "young" 69-year-old (retired English language teacher, now with a second career as a translator working from home), age hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for life, or my interest in cultural pursuits (listening to music, finding out about history, visiting museums, learning about art, watching documentaries, reading, enjoying the countryside...). But I'd really like to share these things with a like-minded partner! I've been looking for one ever since I was young, but somehow life has raced past -in fact several different lives - full of activity but never quite eliminating that sense of having missed something, like looking at a beautiful landscape but feeling "lacrimae rerum"...
Although born in the UK, in my early years I lived in various European countries (Switzerland, Austria, Belgium) and also spent some years in the USA as a student; but I've spent the last 40 years in Italy in Italy (where I am separated from my Italian husband - who was an unfortunate wrong choice). But I have a UK life too, and although I would never describe myself as having an "expat" mentality, I do have an emotive attachment to the UK, and on visits to relatives and friends I love metamorphosing into a "real Brit": so in a sense I feel almost like two different people: British and Mediterranean. What I like about Britain is how easy it is to uproot oneself and get to know new people at any age, and to settle into a new environment; what I like about Mediterranean culture is how friendly people are once you're introduced to them by some established form of contact (eg. through a work contact). I've also always enjoyed the Mediterranean family-oriented lifestyle, but now that my children are grown up with lives and families of their own (in Italy), I'd still like to find a kindred soul - or maybe a part-time partner! - to share some of the enthusiasms and pleasures I can't always expect my children to be as interested in as I am. So can I combine the British and Mediterranean lifestyles?

About her ideal match

I'm looking for a kind friendly person, as a partner or at least to share some experiences with, as I have lots of interests ((listening to music, finding out about history, visiting museums, learning about art, watching documentaries, reading, enjoying the countryside...) but I'd really like to find the right person to help me make the most of these experiences . Since I separated from my Italian husband (a long time ago), I've made a life for myself and my children in Italy and cultivated my interests (as well as working as a translator). But now that the children are grown up and have families of their own, I'd love to have a special friend who would understand my "two (in fact my many) lives" (born in the UK, lived in different countries, over 40 years in Italy) and my British+Mediterranean lifestyle, and who would be kind, friendly, never angry. I think toleration and understanding are the important aspects of a friendship, as well as the ability to respect the other person: I'm NOT looking for someone who is either rich or a keen socializer or arrogantly convinced of his superiority! Finally, I'd quite like to meet someone from Greece - maybe for an experience of another Mediterranean country!
