Kia Ora!
I’m Māori/Tahitian/Italian/French/Norwegian/Sw iss and connect strongly with my Māori upbringing and beliefs. Barefoot whenever possible (Polynesian/hidden Hobbit genes), and almost allergic to things like lists, maps, and directions, preferring to feel my way through life.
I’m warm, generally happy and positive with a quieter, highly intuitive, perceptive, empathic nature and holistic perspective, and fascinated by the unexplored, mysterious, and what motivates people.
I believe in holding doors open, putting phones away and making time for people.
I’m (com)passionate for the people and causes in my heart with animals, children and (art)ifacts usually commanding my attention first. I'm an animal whisperer (apparently!) who saves spiders from certain squishing, and a slave to adopted and foster-cats with special needs who occasionally let me share the furniture/bed.
I adore being in or near water, my favourite scent, laughter, changing sunset hues, moonlight, comfortable silences, authentic connections, intelligent, and heart-to-heart conversations, a little solitude, the reassuring touch of nature, music that moves me, and the shared experience of Ballet and Opera.
I’m also an approximatura playing Cellist - More yo-yo master than Yo-Yo Ma!
I’ve had exhilarating and terrifying experiences working with a variety of animals from America to Zanzibar. It’s always adventurous, but takes on many new twists when my abundant curves and Spina Bifida can prove disastrous.
Especially, when said curves and (apparently!) my adorable clumsiness meet bamboo bridges, historical sites, hidden gems off the beaten path, rickety overcrowded public transport, and animals who behave like stroppy teenagers. All, while trying to retain a crumb of dignity.
Thankfully, my quirky, usually quick-witted Kiwi sense of humour is often my saving grace when my patience and Kiwi ingenuity is tested with "Uh oh!" moments, cringing embarrassments, and the occasional glorious lack of sophistication.

Good open, honest communication is key. If we communicate well, conversation flows easily and we enjoy each other's company, friendship will grow and love will blossom.
Perhaps, you’ll join me in doing Yoga, or a walk-a-thon? Be prepared to walk...A lot! Once upon time, I completed 4 swim-a-thons and 3 half marathons, with the latter, “Good luck with walking for a week after.” Getting to the start was an achievement, never mind the finish line.

With the recent lockdown, H's Kiwi resourcefulness has taken centre stage, especially with family meals. You see, as a Kiwi, she has this almost OCD need to Grill/BBQ/Roast basically anything regardless of the weather. And, there's one Kiwi food staple that is, err... amazingly versatile. Sandwiches: Marmite with crisps, Marmite with cheese, Marmite with...Well, you get the idea. Tomato, avocado and/or salad optional.
Now, I have learned to choose my words very, very carefully. Marmite is basically sacred in New Zealand. Insult it at your own peril. And, whatever you do, DON'T CONFUSE IT WITH Australian VEGEMITE or British MARMITE.
H cooks and eats Italian in a way her Nonna wouldn't fear. French, Norwegian, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian/Thai, Creole, Latin American, and North African dishes are also a favourite with loved ones.
As family, I've known H. for many years. I've watched as people hardly notice her at first, and then without them realizing it, her truly unique, quirky, warm, kind, and nurturing ways quietly storm straight into their hearts.
She's sensitive, empathetic, emotionally secure, intelligent, frustrating-at-times, fierce when treated harshly, well-travelled, and cultured. Her heart breaks over animal and human cruelty, injustice, prejudice, and the state of the world.
She hugs with her Māori soul, she smiles with her Māori heart, she laugh with her tummy, she thinks with her hands, she speaks with her eyes, she listens with her Māori mind, and she abundantly loves with her everything - Once you've earned her trust.
Life has knocked her over a few times and it hasn't been easy for her starting all over again. However, her inner grace, courage and scars tell a story, her story of funny moments and of battles survived. They remind her to keep going, to take deep breaths, and to rest. H. hasn't lost any of her enjoyment of life, or her amazing capacity for happiness and laughter.
And, she also happily inflicts that atrocious noise on everyone she calls "singing!"
