About him
Hi -- thanks for having a look.
A bit about me: I'm a transplanted American who has lived in London now for for over 20 years -- long enough that I almost speak the language. I love almost everything about London (the tube in the morning is a negative point, but I don't have to do the daily commute any more so that's sorted) -- especially the arts / music / culture and also the general greenness of the city. I still find I like exploring the bits of the city I don't know (still many more of them than those I do know) and never get tired of looking at the river. At home, I like cooking (great release to be able to do something with one's hands; also, I'm not really too bad at it!), reading, and, increasingly, listening to Radio 4 (what does that mean?). Also music (mostly classical, but also jazz, and some embarrassingly out-of-date pop stuff). Country walking is quite fun; did a rock-climbing course in Scotland a few years back. Also gym, tennis when partners are available, and whatever else happens by.
Work-wise, I do public policy consulting in areas related to economics / finance and the provision of public services. Used to work for a "real" firm, but now do that independently, almost solely in developing countries. Makes my travel schedule somewhat unpredictable and sometimes awkward, but I do tend to visit some interesting places. And yes, I do get to enjoy "quiet times" between projects (er, that's where the layabout stuff comes in)
