About him
I am easy-going, with an irreverent/ dry sense of humour & don't take life too seriously, but I do occasionally shift into grumpy old man mode, bemoaning the stupidity & daftness of the way things are in the world. In contrast to my usual laid back joi-de-vivre I get quite serious & single-minded when circumstances dictate in work or play.
I am a fit & active person - I run Marathons & Ultra Marathons, at least once a year since 1998 (40+ Marathons, 20+ Ultras, inc 2 x 100+ mile races). I work as a Sport & Exercise Psychologist, helping athletes & exercisers get the most out of their chosen sporting activity.
In addition to long runs over the hills I also enjoy good food & wine, the cinema (on the odd occasion there's a decent film on), listening to music (contemporary & classical), photography, current affairs & politics and playing the piano. I relax by reading, watching wildlife documentaries, cooking or taking a long walk in the countryside or along the beach.
I've travelled extensively, to prob 65+ countries, inc climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, diving in Honduras & the Philippines, trekking in Nepal, New Zealand & Peru, & racing the Comrades Marathon in S Africa. I have lived & worked in Australia, the USA & France. I enjoy being in the mountains, whether to ski in winter or walk in summer, but I also love being by the sea. I'm happiest out in the wilds, camping, trekking, meeting people from all over the world, learning about different cultures & experiencing things that are outside the norm. That said, I love the contrast of being at home, socialising with friends & family, & nesting.
I am always on the look out for new challenges & want life to be more than just about the road through relationship/ marriage/ work/ retirement - I don't want or need to move with the herd, I like to find my own path.
I like interesting & challenging goals, satire, travel, good cuisine, thinking outside the box, resourcefulness, individuality, intelligence, & creativity. I dislike all that is the opposite of this.
About his ideal match
It's hard to condense the ideal partner into a what will essentially look like a shopping list for romance. How can you define the 'chemistry' of attraction? The whole is more than a simple sum of parts, is it not..??
But, if pushed, I would say that my ideal match is resourceful, independent, intelligent, smart, funny, creative & irreverent. She has good taste, and is a proficient cook (although I'm not that bad in the kitchen myself). She is kind, social, generous, and quirky. She has her own interests but would also be happy to spend time supporting mine (as I would hers). She is well-educated & well-travelled, and now looking to start the next phase of the journey of life and start a family in the not too distant future.
My ideal match is fit and active, likes long walks in the countryside or in the mountains and enjoys different types of holidays to the package holiday norm. She has her own sense of style and knows her own mind, is broad-minded and open to new ideas and opinions.
But really, she is all of these things, or just some of these things...maybe she is none of these things, except that she is the one for me.
