In Her Own Words
About her
I have two beautiful grown up children who are off discovering the world and chasing their dreams and now it's time to chase a few of my own. I live in a very old cottage on the outskirts of Bath; think Bath stone, wooden beams, dog draped over shabby chic furniture and log burner going to stave off the drafts and you'll get the picture. I have a big garden which says a lot about the way I like to live - it's a riot of disorganized colour with lots of flowers, vegetables and wildlife.
My house has an open door with friends coming and going. I think they would describe me as a loyal friend who supplies endless cups of Earl Grey and cake, is good at finding the funny side of most situations or providing a shoulder when needed and someone who enjoys a good debate.
I have a great job in education, am passionate about teaching and learning and better still get the summers off. I have a long list of places I still want to visit but have managed quite a few. This summer I'm off to Belgrade and Wales where I'll be house sitting for some goats.
A typical day would involve being fairly active - walking the dog, cycling into Bath, gardening, visiting friends and neighbours - but I also love curling up in front of the fire with a good book or finding the sunniest corner of the house to snooze in. I've probably cooked too many meals recently to say I enjoy it although I love baking cakes or turning up at a party with a pavlova.
I take pleasure in feeling/looking good. Favourite clothes would be faded denims and soft shirts but I like to put on heels and get dressed up too. I really try to keep my hair in check and manage it sometimes, but it reverts to the tousled beach bum look at the drop of a hat.
About her ideal match
Song of the month is Bob Dylan's The man in Me (but obviously the other way round!). It's a wonderful feeling to think that somewhere out there is a man who will 'set my a heart a-reeling/from my toes up to my ears'.
I think that we are biologically programmed to find people attractive who are a bit different to ourselves (or really should be anyway). So for me there is no ideal man. Having said that .. I think that for someone to set my toes buzzing there needs to be some banter, flirting and laughter. I also need to find them interesting and a healthy intellect helps. Realistically, however, there are also limits to how different someone could be and anyone who voted UKIP or reads the Daily Mail except for as a laugh is a definite no.
I am not overly impressed by the things money can buy, although I don't really want to always be footing the bill either. I have worked hard and not been afraid to put myself out there and fight my corner. My ideal man should be able to account for the last 20 years of his life and say he has achieved something. Integrity is vital, as is a sense of justice, care and the ability to reflect.
I am used to being quite independent so I am really happy if someone has their own interests and friends - it would be odd if they didn't. The hope is that we would both be interested and accommodating enough to share experiences and open enough to enjoy what the other had to offer.
I don't want someone who is just looking for a replacement 'other'. I am quite happy and content on my own. I am looking for someone who to me, at least, is wonderful enough to fall in love with and would hope to find someone who can love me, as a person, and is not in love with being in love. Appreciating the packaging is a compliment, a man who knows how to unwrap it can be fun, but ultimately they have got to be interested enough to find out about what's inside.
