In Her Own Words

About her

After living for many years in Scotland I'm thinking about moving back to England. My children are all grown and flown south, I've retired from teaching and I want a fresh start after parting with my husband of 38 years.
It's hard to decide where to go. There are things I have now that I'd be sorry to give up- my allotment, the choirs I sing in. I would like to be somewhere a bit warmer. But if somebody said, run away with me and go sailing...I would, if they were the right person. Or let's go and have chickens and an orchard somewhere...so here I am. Before I burn my boats and decide, I can try to find the most important ingredient. A partner in crime. Or bliss.
I love travelling; I pine without an annual injection of Mediterranean sun and history, and I haven't seen nearly enough of Europe, its scenery, buildings and art. I love wilderness too and have enjoyed the Scottish islands and hills. I don't need bright lights or smart hotels, I loved New Zealand and Norway! But I grew up in London and I feel at home in a big city. I visit it often for its culture, excitement, children and friends.
I'm not a party animal. Dinner at someone's house, delicious food and good company is quite enough socialising for me. I'm a bit shy and quiet and take a bit of time to get to know, I value solitude but need people. I'm looking forward to being in charge of my own life.
The photos: the oldest is the one where I am in the Mirror dinghy which is about 5 years old. The most recent ones are the ones with the rucksack and the one with my grand daughter which were taken in October 2015. The others are in between.

About her ideal match

I really don't know. Someone I like and am attracted to, of course. Kind but exciting and funny, perhaps! Someone who doesn't mind that I am a bit of an odd ball. I don't have a lot in common with many women, although I have some lovely friends who accept me the way I am! People are people and nobody should be put in a box. Don't assume I like shopping and make up because I'm a woman. Femininity is better manifested in other ways, I think.
You would need to enjoy "classical" music, I think. You would like an evening with a glass of wine and a book in companionable silence ( but you'd want to talk about the book as well...) You would love to look at the stars and be by the sea. You would not mind that I'm not a confident hostess or a brilliant cook,(I'll do my best, with a bit of help!) and that I prefer comfortable clothes to ball gowns. (but again, Ill dress up to please somebody who matters to me....just as long as you appreciate that its an effort... But you would think I was interesting and value my opinions. You'd be fit and care about your health, as I do. You want complete intimacy in every way, as I do, and you won't keep secrets from me. But you won't mind me going off sailing if that's not your thing. You don't think we have to do everything together.
You will be intelligent and reflective. You will be calm with disasters, but get excited about wonderful ideas, places and happenings. You would have hands that know how to give a good shoulder massage.
Am I wanting too much? I think at our stage of life, we know people are a bit set in their ways, and we have, I hope, a bit more patience than we did when we were twenty.... But at the same time, we see our own limited time and our mortality, and we want it to be right.
If you think you might like me as your first mate, or even your skipper... Get in touch. I'm up for adventures.
