About him
...that my first stab at writing a profile worked as an advert for myself in much the same way as the charge of the light brigade worked as an advert for flat racing. So I'm trying again.
My job: I'm currently qualifying as a rag and bone man and, being ruthlessly ambitious, I'm progressing wonderfully - I now get to deputise for the horse on its day off, and hope soon to be trusted to pull the cart on my own. Hobbies: like absolutely everyone else here I love scuba diving, which I sometimes combine with my professional interest in muck by going snorkelling in a cess pool. I love going out to swanky restaurants, but am as happy slouched at home swilling Blue Nun and trying to work out why my Andy McNab DVD box set won't work in my Betamax player, as I am dressed up to the nines and slobbering through a 3 course Happy Meal. The obligatory photo of me topless and balancing my paunch on a Ferrari will follow as soon as I've lost enough weight to be able to get out of the house without the council having to resurface the roads in my wake. And, at risk of sounding boastful, I have a heavenly natural musk, which is why I think deodorants are the work of the devil.
OK - seriously, I'm here for one reason: I want to love and be loved. I can't finish a bottle of Liebfraumilch on my own any more, and I'm tired of all those Happy Meals for one. I want the moon on a stick. And a future full of KFC Family Buckets - because I so long to be a dad. The sweetcorn can go on the same stick as the moon - I don't approve of wilful stick wastage.
So if you're like me - passionate, thoughtful, caring, sensitive, sincere and true - I'd love to hear from you. As Shelley said: "Nothing in the world is single; All things by a law divine, In one spirit meet and mingle. Why not I with thine?"
Although, strictly speaking, if nothing in the world were single, I wouldn't be here quoting Shelley now. There's a paradox there somewhere. But I'm sure you get the gist.
About his ideal match
I suppose the first thing I'm looking for is someone who can read what I wrote in section one without immediately clicking on the Next button and muttering the words "exclusion order". Then there is the family thing - I know I've been a silly sausage and left it probably too late, but to me having a family of my own does remain one of what this site pleases to call my "non-negotiables".
It would also help if you're the sort of person who can look at the picture of me with a beard (now gone - a lockdown experiment, now replaced with an enforced foray into what might best be described as 70s sit-com extra hair) and say "my - look at his _range_!", rather than scratch your chin and think "I'm sure I used to have that Fuzzy Felt set." A deep love of music and literature certainly wouldn't go amiss - and if that extends to a constructively critical bent, then one day I might show you the occasional lil' ol' poem of my own composition, and go all swoony if you compliment my enjambment.
But after that - well, at risk of sounding like I've raided the Mills & Boon Big Book of Platitudes: loyalty and love; understanding always and forgiveness when needed; companionship; conversations full of insight and laughter that start over dinner as the sun sinks down, and don't end until it sneaks back up again with the world all put to rights; and a life together which, no matter how long it lasts, will never be able to have been quite long enough.
