My friends would say I was dependable and true, amused by the world, occasionally a bit earnest.
I like walking, sailing (although I don’t do it any more, and it was about the arriving, mooring in glorious places, rather than the sailing), film and theatre, meeting friends in restaurants, good books, fires, gardens, radio four, the gloaming, family meals, warm countries, evenings in warm countries, night-time swimming, trees, politics, dancing, live and broadcast comedy, I could go on and on; this is the easy bit.
I dislike, and this is harder, selfishness, thoughtlessness, unkindness, sport on tv (sorry), powerful aftershave, board games, arrogance, chauvinism. I’m struggling to think of any food that I dislike.
I watch politics and government closely, although I’m not particularly interested in party politics. I was a Blairite, in the day.
For fun I dine with friends, go to the theatre and on walks, potter in my garden, and read a paper every day (Guardian, Times and FT).
What I should be doing, on the other hand, is travelling again (have a yearning to do the Dutch old masters), getting back into scuba diving, visiting a desert, going to a lot more exhibitions and concerts, rejoining a singing group, finding a new dance class, reading fewer newspapers and more good books, spending quiet time in the Dales, and exploring Scotland and the Okavango.
I have two children and two stepchildren, all grownup and, of course, the centre of my world.
