About him
I'm bookish and domestic, but I love to travel and usually take one big trip each year. You and I won't stay in the best hotels around the world, but we'll still travel. I write fiction (my real vocation) and sometimes do printmaking. I'm rather quiet, but not unsocial, and I have a good sense of humor. I'm not into camping, hiking, or most sports, but I like walking, kayaking, swimming, biking. If you buy me a drink I'll get on the dance floor with you. Romantic picnics are essential. Museums, concerts, and plays are also favorites. I'm not fond of TV, except for movies and documentaries. I like cooking with another person.
My Catholic faith is important to me, but I never push it on anyone.
I've had assorted jobs over the years, such as outdoor clothing catalog writer and legal assistant, but for the last 15 years I've been a substitute teacher in SF public schools. (I've got a ton of stories for you.) This works well for me because I can control how many days I work. Ideally, I would work 3 days a week and write the rest of the time, but I'm in high demand, even though I go to only one school. I've been teaching middle school students, most of whom are endearing. Working in schools has taught me that service to others is deeply satisfying.
I'm terribly middle of the road politically but almost all of my friends are liberals or far to the left. You can talk politics with them while I cook dinner. I hope you will tolerate my atrocious moderation. (I'm anti-Trump, if that helps.)
Never had any substance abuse problems, unless you count coffee.
I am passionate, monogamous, even-tempered, humorous, a lover of literature, art, and art history, patient, devoted to travel, curious about the world, introverted, not addicted to my phone, physically affectionate, romantic, healthy, a good listener, and terrible at conjugating French verbs.
About his ideal match
I'm looking for someone who is seriously pursuing her passion for art, of any kind. My ideal match would be a painter who loves silent movies, can recite poetry, and can make me laugh, but I can't insist on such specifics! However, an artist or writer is not too much to hope for. She mustn't be materialistic, because I don't make a lot of money. This is an important issue because problems around money are a common source of tension in marriage. She should have wide interests, be curious about the world, other people, other times. I strongly believe in monogamy. I'm playful, with a great sense of humor. I'm romantic, and need that in a relationship. I've been told I'm a good kisser. Bad manners and vulgarity are turn-offs. In my next relationship I would like to go slowly at first. In the past I've moved relationships forward too quickly and regretted it later.
