About him
Former teacher of English abroad (Italy and Spain) looking to lay down some roots back in Blighty; a little paradoxical in that I am a convivial extrovert but also private and contemplative, and the things that entertain me can be high or low brow, serious or frivolous, sometimes both at the same time, depending on my mood (hence an average Sunday could involve reading the Sunday Times or doing a crossword in front of a daft movie or some glitzy popular TV show like Strictly Come Dancing).
I like keeping in trim so run 3 or 4 times a week, but I am not a fitness fanatic and have a shameless penchant for cakes and buns.
I am inquisitive, and relish and require intellectual stimulation and cultural enrichment; I love discussing big ideas, hearing fresh opinions and solutions to dilemmas, learning new facts and skills, and being challenged and taken out of my comfort zone (though not all the time!). Discovering and probing the intimate depths of new books, songs, plays, films, artists, restaurants, places with another person would be delightful. Furthermore, I speak Italian to a near-native level, and would be keen as mustard to have a crack at another foreign language (maybe you could teach me?)
If all that sounds intimidating I am capable of kicking back and being carefree sometimes; don't worry, I am neither pretentious nor judgmental and can laugh at myself. All in all I savour easy-going, affectionate, witty, and ebullient company: someone who's spontaneous and up for getting out and doing exciting things, but also would be content to loll around in lounge pants if repose and rejuvenation were required.
Trust and honesty are imperative; jealousy should not even be on the table, it only leads to pernicious places.
I can't abide virtue-signalling, hypocritical, self-righteous, narcissistic, or wilfully ignorant people.
Oh, and I adore dogs (except the small, yappy-type ones that fit in handbags or can be used as dish-mops), whilst I warily admire cats' sassy insouciance.

Bright, witty, outgoing, affectionate, kind, and intellectually/culturally curious.... Easy-going but also spontaneous and up for doing new and interesting things.... Would be great if she was also into literature, cinema, theatre, art, singing/dancing/musicals, tennis.... But equally awesome if she brought her own idiosyncratic passions to the table
