About him
I am a kind, relaxed, well-educated widower. My interests include my family, which is of huge importance to me, good food, great conversation and confident, strong women. I no longer pursue my former hobbies, cabinet-making and world travel. Books are important to me but I rarely read newspapers. I take my news from the TV and the internet. Loyalty and integrity are important qualities and I dislike inflexibility, bigotry and reality TV. My interest in the theatre is tangential at best; suspense of disbelief is not my forté. Generally I am positive, optimistic and logical.
If you like good food, great conversation, periods of peaceful silence and have an interest in current affairs, that would be good. A cheerful outlook, an attraction for the humorous things in life, a love of literature and books and enjoying music would make you an ideal friend.
You should know that I smoke small cigars. I drink rarely although I have deep-seated love of good claret eg Chateaux Talbot and Lynch-Bages. If these facts are deal-breakers, so be it. And I am not too keen on pets (excepting tropical fish!) – It is a hygiene thing.
I have travelled to 67 of the UN's 200 odd countries but arthritis has put a stop to my wanderlust. In the interests of full disclosure, I must admit that I am not as active as once I was. No long walks or sports activity for me now. And travel, cruising and exploring; well I’ve done all that so contentment at home is mighty attractive. Interesting conversation is important for my sanity. I also like shaggy-dog stories, patter songs, watching Rugby Union, cricket and Arsenal.
My professional life involved people and people remain an undying fascination. I do hope also that you have a sound sense of humour. You might need it! Too much intensity is not healthy!
