About him
I am curious and interested in most things and as a result I have many hobbies and interests. I enjoy the company of people but I also need time to recharge and reflect. I prefer small groups of good friends over large groups of more superficial acquaintances. I am happy in my own company but strongly believe that most experiences in life are better shared with other people.
Although my natural inclination is towards more cerebral activities I also like to do things that are more grounded and communal. I love walking alone and in groups; I especially enjoy hill walking in the Lake District. I am interested in dance; both watching and participating. This has included English and international folk dance as well as historic dance. I would be happy to try other genres.
I enjoy sports but prefer to take part rather than watch. My particular passion is hockey which I play regularly. I used to be a keen cyclist. I also enjoy skiing and sailing when the opportunity arises although I am not particularly expert at either. I like to try and keep fit but prefer to do this as part of an active lifestyle rather than working out at a gym. I also enjoy playing board games.
I love music, ballet, theatre and the arts. Although my tastes are very eclectic I tend more towards the classical side. Music is a very important part of my life. Although I have had no formal training I like to play multiple musical instruments with differing degrees of success.
I would say that I have a positive but realistic outlook on life. I believe that we get one brief life so we need to make the most of it. My appreciation of philosophy gives me a sense of perspective. I also think having a good sense of humour helps. I value our environment and I have been a vegetarian the whole of my adult life. I would like to think of myself as a very open, honest, loyal, compassionate and considerate person but that is really for others to decide.
About his ideal match
I would like to meet someone who was genuine, warm, tactile, independent, self-aware and confident in themselves but who was looking for a companion to share their journey and experiences. They would need to be somebody who was happy in their own company as well as the company of others.
Hopefully they would be somebody who was active, curious and interested in the world and who would make a good intellectual companion as well as a soulmate. Although it would be nice to have some shared interests it would also be wonderful to share new enthusiasms for other things.
I greatly value openness, honesty, conscientiousness and the ability to self-reflect. It would be a joy to find somebody to form a relationship where we could help, support and encourage each other to grow as people and enjoy the world together.
Although my ideal match would not need to be a vegetarian I think they would need to be somebody who was sympathetic to the idea.
I am afraid that I am not particular keen on owning dogs so this might be a problem.
