About him
I am English, but from knee high to a grasshopper I found myself mixing with people from different cultures, and was fascinated by the differences. And before long I explored the wide world out of curiosity and adventure. And went on doing so, for work and pleasure. But the part of the world whose culture really drew me in was not far away at all: southern France and Spain. I found French and Spanish rather easy to learn. I often wondered where my mum got her dark eyes and black hair from. And then I saw her surname on a signpost in the Vivarais (southern France). Anyway, I come across as a classic English gentleman, and I guess that’s what I am: I have the education, and the beautiful house and garden, to suit. More important, I have a very respectful attitude to women. That never changes, but my moods do: I can be charming and witty – or shy and awkward. I am vulnerable but resilient. I write decent poetry on a good day. I can’t sing to save myself, but I love to listen to other people singing – singing well. I love the outdoors and care a lot about the environment. My idea of heaven is sailing across the Aegean and stopping off every evening for a swim and some songs, with a guitar (played by someone else!). Haven’t done that yet, but canoeing down a Mongolian river, or the Wye, is great too and I have done that. Hill walking and working out keep me fit in between times. And working on my fifth book exercises my brain.
About his ideal match
The sort of woman who sets my pulses racing, is passionate and warm and physically affectionate – tactile. That is, more or less, Mediterranean. Would be great if she sang well, and/or danced. She should be artistic, in a broad sense. I would certainly want her on that Aegean trip. And any other. (NB: I don't take my trips on LSD! To quote Merle Haggard in Okie from Muskogie.) I couldn't promise not to get into bad moods from time to time but I could promise to get out of them with the help of a gentle stroke. One thing I won’t be wanting or needing from my lady is looking after. I can't think of anything much that I wouldn't like to share with her.

Andrew was widowed last year and is now ready to move on to the next phase of his life. He is a lovely person, sensitive, highly intelligent and always very interesting to talk to. He can be a bit serious and it would be lovely for him to find somebody to have some fun with and share special moments with. He loves being outside in the countryside, that's where he feels most relaxed so finding somebody who enjoyed going out walking could be ideal. He is good company and attractive and is available to make somebody feel special; he deserves somebody really nice because he is a really nice person.
