Since joining this site I have never felt more undateable, apart from among ruthless Russian scammers for whom I appear to be the answer to an extortionist's prayer.
I don't wear lycra. I do a lot of cycling but don't have a Go-Pro camera attached to my crash hat for recording aggressive clashes with motorists, which I then post to YouTube. I've never eaten 'Vietnamese' street food cooked by gap-year hipsters at Borough Market, trekked across the Masai Mara on an ostrich, thought anything Buddhist or opened my chakras to a soundtrack of ambient whale sounds. I don't fetishistically sip from a titanium flask containing 'smart' water and have no pictures of myself dangling from a sheer Himalayan rock-face wearing Maui Jim mirrors. Nor do I compulsively monitor my circadian rhythms through a biosensor strapped ostentatiously to my upper arm. Since birth I have effortlessly lived every moment of my life in-the-moment because, given the structure of time, I found it impossible to do otherwise.
A psychiatrist friend asked me what I want from my life, to which I replied, 'To have a laugh and to not think about what I want from my life.' His response was to suggest that I should either grow up or be sectioned. I grew up shortly after my boy was born and his nappies needed changing. But I regressed again when my boy acquired language, because I realised how many opportunities for having a laugh were provided by the presence of a small child.
We have an uncouth hound that was rescued from the Carpathian Mountains, not far from where Dracula lives, who is understandably phobic about bats and at times appears somewhat bitter.
I've done PhDs, including a philosophical theory of madness, but had I been less self-regarding when I was young I would have chosen a career in food and wine.

Were I asked about my ideal match, I'd reply, 'Any port in a storm.' I would add that sanity would be a good start, although impulsiveness and unpredictability are exciting. I value a strong will and an independent initiative along with an orientation that looks outwards, towards the world and not inwards, towards the self (I find those that worship at the altar of the self somewhat tedious). A woman that gladly embraces her femininity, who doesn't give a s**t about her pronouns, has a waspish sting and who makes a decent cup of tea. Full-bloodied appetites for food and laughter, plus an impulse for 'letting-go' are thrilling. Plus a susceptibility to over-eating, with appetites for dissent and dessert and a refusal to accept that, 'You can't say that', because you can say that. I've found there are two types of people: those, who when they say they will do something, do it; and everybody else.
