About him
I was born and raised in Ireland though I have lived in the UK for a long time, but I have still not managed to lose my "Canadian accent".
I work as an engineer; I have always been curious about how things work, and am really into my science.
I'm always reading something; fiction or non-fiction, heavy topics or trashy page turning mysteries and thrillers. I always aim for books on topics that are little bit off the beaten track. I always have a pile of books that I have still to read.
My taste in music has broadened and mellowed in recent years. My music collection includes the likes of Nickelback, Bob Seger, Charles Mingus, and Randy Crawford. I don't have a television anymore. Even though there are some excellent programmes, it isn't enough to offset all the rubbish. If there is a particular show or series I want to see then I wait till it comes out on DVD. I particularly like the Nordic Noir series. If I want to know the news I buy the FT and The Economist.
The best thing about living in near London is all the shows, plays, concerts and exhibitions that we have here. I really enjoy going to the theatre. I think I have been in every theatre in London at least once.
I like cooking and with the help of Nigella Lawson I'm a fully certified "Domestic Goddess". I am particularly proud of my apple crumble.
I like to keep in shape; I go for a swim every day before I go to work. As well as keeping fit, it helps to keep my temperament on an even keel. I also enjoy horse riding. I find it both very relaxing and at time exhilarating, though sometimes the horse isn't exactly cooperative.
