About her
I was born to shambling aristocratic parents who let me loose on the world at too young an age. Am generally thought of as eccentric, a one-off, intelligent Oxford graduate but presents as a dippy type who you would be forgiven for describing as a bit mad (a favourite term used by my parents for all of their children!). I'm not mad. I'm a commercially published author, whose nature is characterised by a mix of studied bohemianism and child-like terror. Also an ex-head of English for 30 years. My approach to being in charge of any department is to hire great people and let them get on with what they do best and not interfere with their creative brilliance. On a different but related note, I am not very interested in discussing, say, the relative cost of aeroplane tickets. I like depth and humour in equal measure. Ditto right mix of solitude an uproarious fun. I believe in God but don't bang on about it. I am an annoying mix of highly sensitive and 'let's just get on with it'. I have no idea why you should get to know me. I detest marketing myself. But I hope I know how to Love a guy, if he's the right one!
About her ideal match
You never really know who is going to turn out to be ideal. I am no good with weak or submissive men and I am truly ashamed to say I don't do well with men who don't speak in received pronunciation or hold their knife and fork as if they are two pens. I am really sorry about this as it is a dreadful attitude. I like strong, assured characters who are also generous, sensitive, relaxed and witty. I don't mind if a man is a bit fat, or whatever, but would steer clear of obesity. I retain a child-like attitude to love. I think you can fall in love at any age. I love a passionate man and am passionate myself if the chemistry is right. I'd rather steer clear of a man who is going to drag me around meeting extensive family members, though if the family were right that could also be fun. I need cherishing, I think, and if I love, I love completely. Men who read are good for me or those who love theatre. Men with a spiritual dimension can work as long as they don't take themselves too seriously. Self-mockery always charms me, as does spontaneous laughter rather than punchline wit or one liners on repeat. Actually, anything on repeat isn't great, is it, though I suspect I repeat myself. I'm not keen on climbing mountains etc but I don't think two people in love always have to like doing the same things. Leave me at home, writing a book and come back to me. I am an appalling cook. Sorry - this is all about me when it is meant to be about you. You will understand... I'm not that bothered if you are impotent physically as long as you are potent mentally and emotionally! This doesn't mean that I dislike intimacy. Some men have expressed concern about my reference to impotence but they should take said statement as an expression of generosity while my comment about received pronunciation is a mean one, I think.
