Not sure that online dating is the best way of meeting somebody. The process is more like a job application than 'love at first sight'.
There is something called ‘the paradox of choice’. Perceived surplus of potential mates leads to lack of respect for responses, you take responses for granted, go on short term dates (because there is always someone better) and then you decide it’s all a waste of time and online dating is not for you. Sound familiar?
According to Wikipedia (so it must be true🙂) men are more inclined to swipe or match impulsively and women are far more selective. Men will message 7% of their matches and women 21%. Women will initially message with an average of 122 characters and men just 12.
If men send a ‘positively worded’ message [whatever that means], they are more likely to get a poorer response. In fact the response from women after a man had initiated contact was about 21%. For men after a woman had sent them a message, they would respond something like 80% of the time. Carefully constructed and crafted long messages make no difference to response rates.
80% of women will pursue just 20% of the available males.
Why does all this matter? Partly because it shows that online dating isn’t a ‘magic wand’ gateway. People still need to focus (and overcome lingering fears and self-doubt😔). And partly because I wanted my advert - sorry profile - to be memorable. It doesn't matter if you agree with it or not, it just needs to stand out from the background noise and familiar cliches of everybody else.

Some years ago I was sitting at a table with a group of fellow students. As seems customary, the women started slagging off their husbands and partners. All, apart from one woman who was noticeably quiet. Eventually she was asked for her thoughts. She said she loved her husband. She missed him all the time when he wasn’t there, and she wished he was with her now. I can remember it, even now.
That’s the kind of woman I’m looking for.
I'm very interested in current affairs. My politics would be described as on the same page as Reform. That will see off the holier than thou, virtue signalling types. 😊

I enjoy scuba diving, archery, fishing, the gym, DIY, kayaking and just being outdoors. But I also like simple pleasures like watching a film or a pub quiz. I love dogs, especially Golden Retrievers.
I work full time in the medical field. Somebody at work said you can always tell if I’m around, because you hear laughing. Of course, you can take that two ways😊, but let’s go for the nice version.
I am presently living fairly comfortably in a converted van. This suits me perfectly at the moment. This will either put you off or sound intriguing and maybe pique your curiosity.
Likes - I appreciate beautiful, handmade things, books, nature, 80s /90s music, octopuses, YouTube and visiting art and craft centres. I collect old tools and old Ladybird books. I love history (especially pre-historic and ancient history- hence the intentionally clichéd tag line) reading, socialising, anything off-grid related, giving massages.
Dislikes - aggression, bad manners and selfishness, computers (I am aware of the irony), sheeple who follow the flock, dishonesty.
I am not looking for a long distance, lots of messaging, type of relationship, the more local, the better.
I'm not claiming to be anything special - far from it. I'm just an ordinary bloke, trying to make sense of a mad, mixed up, Orwellian world. However, if anything I have written strikes a chord, say hello. I don't bite - honestly.
