In Her Own Words

About her

Here's a straightforward profile without lengthy lists or cutsey sunset stuff! It's just a common-or-garden WTLM. Here goes.

I'm a bookish person, I like reading and writing. Although I'm not an academic, I might easily have become one, and I read old literature and some sociology. I like idling about cafes or parks with the current book. One of the things I like about London is the diversity of the city, the fact that you can try out Sri Lankan or Ethiopian cuisine, say. The fact that there seems to be room for every eccentricity.

A few years ago I discovered swing dancing and I am now very keen on lindy hop, balboa, charleston..but I suspect the number of people who will know what I'm on about there is a bit limited. Let's just say that would-be dance partners are welcome. And although I'm attached to cities, I also enjoy walking in the countryside, especially if the path runs via pubs and tea-rooms like the excellent Time Out walks outside London. Media-wise, I'm a Radio 4-listener and I like old comedies, and Stephen Fry's rants.

I'm not into clubbing, don't much like the hard-drinking yob thing that seems to be part of a "night out with the lads/girls" but happy with cinema, theatre, or curled up with a cup of tea and a conversation. I'm quite dressy - in a 1940s/50s not a "designer label" way - at least, I'm the kind of person who would dress up to go on a date. I know I have a lot of spare capacity to care for and look after someone - and a real need for the same. I'm old enough to have experienced failure, loss and bereavement.

I used to work for a campaigning law firm and I've been quite involved in the issue of refugee rights, but I'm not a peacenik or an eco-warrior! I'm passionate, sometimes a bit contrary, have a dry sense of humour which I hope stops me being righteous.

Incidentally, I travel a great deal because of my job, so it is rather hard to say where I live - it's a sort of mix of Brussels, London and Strasbourg.

About her ideal match

My ideal match? .Well.. If you're gorgeous, I'm up for a snog behind the bikeshed. If you're kind and interesting, I'm up for conversation and friendship. If you're all of these things, we could live happily ever after. And if you're none of...well, perhaps this is not very enlightening.

I'd like to meet someone who could make me laugh, but that doesn't mean being a stand-up... I think my friends might say it would help if you were something of a good listener...it's reciprocal though. I'm looking for a friendship or relationship that would develop - I'm the kind of person who has a few close friends I really get to know. If you're missing someone to cuddle in the morning, or would like someone to make you a cup of tea while you witter about your boss / colleagues / staff / clients / patients / pupils - I'll be putting the kettle on.

I have a thing for women who have a kind of joie de vivre - women who perhaps have something to say for themselves and don't just go along with every fad. I'm not looking for someone who's life has been one long string of successes and who thinks that makes her attractive - and if you have no need of emotional support at all, I might feel a little redundant. But I think a degree of sanity about long term plans might be a good thing for a long term relationship!

It feels a little crass to mention looks...But I should perhaps say I'm attracted to quite feminine women. If you look like Ava Gardner that would be quite acceptable (see "snog behind bikeshed", above). If not, don't worry, I am very short-sighted.
