I was short-listed for the Svalbard Literature Prize but declined it because of outrage that my (far more important) contributions to Morris dancing receiving no recognition.
Well, I do like to read books, keep myself fit, walk up hills when I can (which isn't very often), and light fires in the woods. I have one or two qualifications, and my PhD involved thinking about some of the pretty little lights in the night sky. Presently I work in London chasing government targets.
At an exhibition I usually read every last word, tormenting myself while I visualise the tantalising coffee awaiting me in a nearby cafe. I have an enquiring mind, and learn and travel as much as I can. I welcome new experiences and would like to learn to hang-glide, surf and sail. I make a mean chocolate mousse and creme brulee but have nobody to share these with. My sea breezes aren't too bad either. My egg custard is truly terrible. I have a few creative writing projects on the go which I never seem to complete, and once in a purple moon I'll play my guitar. I listen to radio four occasionally.
Everybody likes to put 'skiing' in their profile, but I do like to ski every winter. The excitement of being on the edge of control, hurtling along at absurd speeds past amazing geology. And there is that virtuous feeling at the end of the day, when your feet are finally released and your tired body settles down to some food and a chat.
Something I've been getting into this year is salsa dancing. Ahh the smoothness and sponteneity of it. And it's simply great fun.
I have travelled a fair bit in Europe and America, and visited South America and Canada briefly, but I would like to travel more. I appease my wanderlust by occasionally reading biographies and articles by foreign correspondents. I try, badly, to learn languages - mainly French - and am obsessed with the idea of one day living abroad.
About his ideal match
Well, this is too self-indulgent for my liking, but here goes. Please only contact me if you are animated (i.e. take a passing interest in your surroundings), have an enquiring mind (do you ingest books and sleep with them, in order to ‘directly’ receive the information?), have a light-hearted approach to serious things and a serious approach to light-hearted things? Do you look after yourself (i.e. can you remain conscious and upright while tying your own shoelaces?). Are you imaginative (i.e. slightly unhinged). Are you open to experiences and positive (i.e. slightly unhinged). Do you like cheese?
Do you look after yourself, take exercise? Perhaps the gym? Dancing? Running? Dry stone-wall building?
Are you both proficient with firearms, and able to explain the Buckminster-fullerene molecule to a layperson? If you are fluent not only in Ogham, Linear B and Aramaic, then we will practice these together whilst drinking homemade cocktails. If you are also familiar with the legendary facial-tick code of Newport Pagnell then I will bow down and worship you.
Oh and manatees. If you are a manatee, or have had a close physical relationship with one, that’s absolutely fine, and we can compare notes. Can you wax lyrically in haiku on the subject of these gentle and bemused aquatic herbivores.
Although I live in Milton Keynes I am looking to move back to London and, given that I work in Holborn, I am looking for a girl in the London area.
Did you like One Night at McCools, The Fountain, Palookaville, Southlands, Magnolia, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, or Napoleon Dynamite?
