About him
I retired in 2008 and was widowed a second time. Resolved to make a new life, I was fortunate to find a magical partner, for 12 years my world's centre, till her death in July. I’m fit and won't give up believing in the love and joy of partnered life.
I’m a Scot who supports my country’s independence in Europe. Though I’ve no religion, my late partner was Jewish and I respect the beliefs of others. I've no time for prejudice, racial or religious. The Tory Party is, rationally and morally, anathema to me, as is ‘Brexit’ and all forms of xenophobia. If none of this puts you off, please read on.
If touring Europe, mostly Italy (also France/Iberia/Greece and maybe Central Europe), discussing and exploring everything (inc. good food and good wine), loving great scenery, feeling the sweep of history and being moved by great music and art (all very important), by cinema and literature... if this is your world, enjoyed full tilt, laughs and all and with no 'side' – it’s also mine.
I'm a historian, based in the Borders and Italy - a life I mean to continue; but people come first and change lives. My bases are the Tweed valley not far from Edinburgh and a centro storico, in lovely country amid mountains between Urbino and the sea; I enjoy these landscapes - picnics, walks in hills/forests, swims in friends’ pools/rivers/Adriatic bays.
I want to find a partner and lover to share this. Lucky three times before, I know new life can be found with a woman of character, beauty and independence who isn't afraid to go for love and life. I write and research in history and the arts and pen poetry, romantic, comic and political, for my and, I hope, my better half's enjoyment.
I’ve two lovely, talented daughters married/partnered with fine men, two grandsons, a successful step-son and my late partner's daughters are my friends.
