About him
"That's him" she thought. She was relieved. There were two stages to her thought process when she met a man like this. The first was relief if he looked half normal, someone she would be happy to meet in everyday life. It washed over her. She relaxed and smiled and straightened up to show herself off.
There was nothing worse than knowing immediately that a man was less than she had imagined him to be. A small part of her died every time this happened. She always hoped she would not bump into anyone she knew. But this time, equally quickly, she knew it would be fine, better than fine. In fact, already she did not know where the evening would end. And she enjoyed the dangerous excitement of that thought.
She sat down and turned earlier than was customary to thought process stage two - how much did she like him? What did that really come down to? Intelligence, his social ease, the way he looked - his face, his body? She looked his physique up and down. His eyes were bright, his teeth were white, his skin was clear. She could make out his body through his shirt. He was not exactly like his photo, they never were, but he was just as good.
The evening proceeded at brisk pace. He fixed her in the eye and did not let her get away with anything. He made her think. She liked it. It made a change.
About his ideal match
She arrived on time. He gave her credit for that for starters. He looked her up and down while trying to not look as if he was doing so... face, eyes, mouth, skin, neck, build. He said 'Hello' and knew the strength of her reply would be crucial to his forming a view. Her reply was firm and friendly. She acted like she had the right to be there - that everyone in the bar fancied her - or should do. Her one word confirmed her intelligence. Without this, she was nothing in his eyes.
She sat down. Her teeth were straight and white. He started gently. She had opinions that she could support and defend. She did not regret her past and talked in the moment. She laughed easily and did not get caught in his verbal traps. She knew who she was and this, at least for now, meant she had his attention.
