In Her Own Words

About her

According to friends and family I am fairly outgoing and I will have a go at almost anything, however, I do not take myself too seriously. I am happy walking in Wellingtons with the dogs, or doing the garden, but I must admit that I do enjoy getting dressed up to go out, whether this is for a spot of retail therapy, a quiet meal or out with friends.

My interests range from walking, researching family history, reading and listening to music. I have a fairly varied taste in both, and enjoy Bach, Beethoven and Vivaldi all the way through to Rumer and Adele. With regard to reading I can be found reading Jane Austen one day and Lynda La Plante, Mavis Cheek or Fiona McIntosh the next.

I have recently returned from a 3 month trip to Goa. I went with the intention of doing some volunteer work in an Orphanage. However, Indian bureaucracy got in the way and this was not possible, so if this crops up again, I intend to look after rescued monkeys next time, as I understand that the paperwork is much less troublesome! However, I can honestly say that to have a 'fresh from the swimming pool' monkey launch itself on to your knee for a cuddle, even though you just know that he is only after your mobile phone or your jewellery is a feeling that is so wonderful, you simply don't care if your clothes get wet.

I decided to retire prior to the trip to India, I previously worked in the waste management industry, and can honestly say that I loved my job, the Company, my customers and on the whole, most of my colleagues. I find that retirement doesn't suit me so I am now working on a temporary basis, will see how it goes!

One of the photographs was taken during the World Cup Cricket semi-finals in India, and the Indian flag was painted on my face by a charming young man called Romeo whilst we all enjoyed watching the match in a friends bar.

About her ideal match

I guess that most of us are here because we miss the closeness of a relationship with another person, whether this is a shared joke, a memory, a TV programme, a trip somewhere, something one of the kids said or did, the list is endless. The other side of the coin, is of course, the things that you did share, which sometimes, when thought about can be quite painful. I still can't bring myself to watch University Challenge or Eggheads!

From my own point of view i suspect I have spent the time since my husband died attempting to convince myself that I did not need another person to share my life, my kids and the animals are fine, thank you very much! However, this has now changed (have I grown up?) and I find myself longing to be part of a couple again, even if this is as silly as whose turn it is to make the tea in the morning, when it's my turn I will deliberately not wear anything on my feet so they are nice and cold when I return!

I find that i cannot be prescriptive about my ideal match, as I believe that if the chemistry (which is completely inexplicable) is right then both parties will know, so I find it difficult, if not impossible, to define my ideal match, however, a good start would be a couple of qualities such as honesty and integrity, without which I think for me would be a non-starter for any kind of relationship.

Having said that, there are certain things which are important enough to warrant a mention, namely, that I think that the kind of person I am looking for needs to have a sense of humour that matches mine, which is pretty wicked, but never nasty, loves animals, enjoys whatever life throws at them, and oh, might be able to help with the Daily Telegraph crossword when I get stuck!
