I'm divorced & have been raising my child on my own for nearly a decade now, and am only just feeling I can dip my toes back in the waters of non-child rearing life: but my child is still my priority. I know that there are men out there who have been through parallel experiences. I suppose if I were to blurt out the honest truth about what I want & what I think I am like, I would say that I like to look after people, and also to be looked after: I have a very strong maternal & protective instinct, but I would so love to met a man who had an equally strong, or stronger, masculine & protective instinct. I think that kindness is not just a priority in any relationship - friendship or romance - but a sine qua non. But so is intelligence and curiosity: and I am looking for someone who - friend or knight errant - wants to travel the world and consider most continents liveable; has a keen interest in history, art & music; and who can crack awful jokes when things go wrong. From a practical point of view, this ideal friend or companion has deal with the fact that I live in Cornwall and as long as Cornwall is the home that my child loves, I cannot move.

My ideal match is kind, intelligent, humorous & protective. He must be "switched on" - so, reasonably athletic and alert to what is going on round him - and interested in history, art & ideas. I hope I too fit these criteria. I suppose I vaguely imagine a military background, which is what I am used to: but I do not wish to sound exclusive/excluding by saying this. Above all, I am looking for kindness. I myself am in my 40s and a mother: I think I have as best I can kept my looks and my figure, but if I have a chance at another relationship I don't think want it to be be down to these factors, but to whether I can be seen as a kind & loving .
