In Her Own Words

About her

I like to think I'm a well-rounded individual with lots of different enthusiasms and a genuine interest in what other people do and say. One of my particular favourites is music - I sing in a choir and play in an orchestra, and enjoy theatre - watching rather than performing, although I once trod the boards with Toby Jones. And I have always wanted to be an ASM.

I enjoy writing and editing (including being on the editorial group of a national quarterly magazine), but I don't have a novel in me (but possibly an Economics textbook). One of my finest moments was being 'You the Editor' on the letters page of The Times.

In my spare moments (of which there are few) I like to ride my Pashley.

My critics say I'm pedantic, but my friends say I'm passionate about things and have good attention to detail. Both my friends and critics maintain I can be quite scary at times; all I would say is that I don't suffer fools gladly, but am happy to roll over and have my tummy tickled as appropriate.

As a teacher in a former life, the aspect I enjoyed particularly was bringing the most out of people - students who had been very hard work, but flourished later on, were an especial joy.

I'm much more of an indoor person than outdoors, although with a bit of persuasion might be tempted on a long walk or to a game of tennis. However, running, the gym - never. R4 is good - sometimes to be thrown out of the window, but mostly to be embraced.

I'm generally optimistic, out-going, and prepared to embrace what life brings.

About her ideal match

After some interesting experiences in the past, I would hope to meet someone considerate with relatively traditional views and courtesies - good at holding the door open, walking on the outside, sharing an umbrella, good time - keeping - and who is an intellectual equal. It would be nice to share music and theatre whether as a performer or mutual supporter. Curled up on the sofa listening to music or a good play would be as enjoyable as the Royal Albert Hall or the National Theatre.

Shared interests and time are important, but so is independence; a partner with active enthusiasms and pursuits (not necessarily mine) is important. I'm happy to accommodate most people's interests as long as they can accommodate mine.
