About him
Strong family values are important to me, with a belief that the "Generation Gap" is a myth. I learn from my 5 year old grandson and his teenage cousins, as they do from me.
I'm pretty laid back. Don't take myself too seriously, and have a finely tuned sense of humour. Love spontaneity, it adds an element of spice to life !
Empathetic and a good listener, are qualities that come naturally, encouraging interesting conversation. Tolerance and patience are in the family genes, although everyone has their limits.
I enjoy Travel, Pub and Cafe cultures. Relax playing occasional social Golf with family / friends, who don't take this ridiculous game too seriously ! Not adverse to my own company, but enjoy interaction with like-minded easy going people.
Don't particularly enjoy large gatherings, never have, with Corporate life's so called "networking functions" encouraging that view. I avoid loud, brash people, whose only focus is themselves, and the only word they learnt to articulate is "I" !
To equal the "equation", I can socialise as well, if not better than most. Certainly not a "Bah Humbug" Scrooge sort of person. Just mildly selective regarding function types.
Have a wide set of interests. Reading – non-fiction preferred, including, biographies, history, current affairs, sport, and travel. Just shooting the breeze in relaxing natural surroundings, with a water and / or rural backdrop, in the presence of convivial companionship.
Spent 25 years in the Tourism Industry in South Africa, qualifying as a Tourist Guide, and became self-employed as a Tour Operator. Many stories to tell, some of which are in the manuscript of a currently shelved Covid lockdown book.
Gained wonderful insights into the natural world, including the threat to wildlife and our natural habitat. Interaction with different cultures, and historical backgrounds, gave tremendous insight into how a country develops - not always for the better.
Oh – and I like dogs !
About his ideal match
My ideal match would be someone who is fun loving, spontaneous, and enjoys good conversation. A sense of humour would be an ideal pre-requisite, as would a willingness to share and respect differences where they might occur. A keen interest in Travel, UK included, would also be ideal.
Sharing casual eating experiences whether Pub, Coffee Shop, or low key restaurant would be great. Not averse at all to Theatre / Cinema visits, or walking a dog. I don't have one, but more than happy to exercise with someone else's !
Being part of the 60's / 70's generation, a love of music from that era is a big plus. Bit of a Beatles nut, but don't push it on people, with the unique Freddie Mercury and Queen being a strong later favourite. What price the "Travelling Wilburys" (Travelling who ?!)
