About her
I have a good, but quite dry, sense of humour. I can do small talk but prefer substantial talks. I love books, films, coffee, newspapers, world affairs, documentaries, music, walks, cycling, swimming, psychology, cats and people watching. I'm open-minded and tougher on myself than on others. I couldn't be close friends with a Tory voter, a racist or any sort of bigot though I'm capable of having a respectful conversation with anyone. I'm very comfortable in my own company. My friends and grown-up daughter are more important to me than the rest of my family. I subscribe to the NYT and love doing the puzzles. I like being surprised and learning about other people's perspectives. I prefer to cycle, but if I'm on public transport I don't scroll; I observe my fellow man and woman. I sometimes strike up conversations with total strangers and believe most people are good until proven otherwise.

I'm not looking for someone just like me, though it's hard to imagine being drawn to someone who's nuts about sport. Do it, fine, but I'd rather you do it or talk about it with your other friends! I hope you're comfortable in your own skin, happy with who you are, what you have and your life so far. You need to be inquisitive about the world and you need to have a good heart, that is, you find it easy to empathise with others. I'd like to enjoy films, walks, live music and talking with a fellow thinker, and I'd be up for trying out new hobbies. I'd like to meet your friends and introduce you to mine, though most live abroad. It would be lovely if you spoke another language and/or wanted to travel. Someone with a deep religious conviction: that would be a deal-breaker for me. Likewise someone who turned out to be married. I'm looking for an honest, articulate grown-up who would say, "You're not the one I'm looking for" rather than "Yes, let's meet again" if he'd rather not. We Brits tend to be bad at that sort of upfrontness, but I like it because it saves so much time!
