About him
2007-2010 were a dreadful four years for me! My wife of forty years and our son both died from cancer and then I had a stroke. I have recovered from that but it has left me with eyesight, that is not good enough for driving.
I am a retired engineer, applied mathematician and a serial entrepreneur, innovator and inventor, who spent a working life, exploring the mathematics of areas as diverse as chemistry, electronics, mechanics, project management and finance. Now, I explore technology and write about it in my blog. I am particularly fascinated about the mathematics of topics like battery and hydrogen powered transport, renewable energy and storage and the dynamics of money.
Pre-pandemic, I travelled extensively. Sometimes, I'd hear of a technological development and I'll just take off to see it immediately. Some months ago, I heard about hydrogen-powered trains in Germany, so I was on the Eurostar to Amsterdam and a train to Hamburg. I saw the trains, but they weren't working. But advanced technology is often like that! On a second trip I rode them.
My ideal holiday is to fly to Europe and take trains home, seeing the sights in cities that others ignore.
I particularly like Eastern Europe, where two years ago in the snow, I was on a nature tour looking for bison and wolves in North East Poland.
I am coeliac, but that's no problem except in places like Middlesbrough, Turkey and the United States.
I have some trips in planning.
But for the last year or two, I've been hiding in my house writing, but I now feel it's time to break out!
I suspect, that my first trips will be around the UK, as there are still plenty of places I've not seen. For instance, I've only been to Orkney once, and never to Shetland or the far North of Scotland, despite the fact that I was at the sharp end of the development of North Sea Oil and Gas.
I believe that this country is going through an energy revolution and I will document it.
My wife always said I wasn't boring! She told me not to change!

I am not looking for another lady like my late wife. She was unique, but I wouldn't mind another friend unique in her own ways,
I suspect, my ideal match will be intelligent, ambitious and missing doing those things that are best done with a good friend.
She could be like my wife and need support in her profession. Or perhaps she might hate cooking, which I love.
One thing that I do like is going shopping with a woman of taste and style, as it usually ends up to our mutual satisfaction, even if we don't buy much.
That would have to be on-line now!
Who knows?
I would also enjoy helping her to fulfil her travel bucket list!
